Make Money with Affiliate Marketing – 3 Reasons to Start with Affiliate Marketing

You may have heard that affiliate marketing is the easiest way to make money online, and that’s relatively true. While it does take hard work and focus, it’s quite possible to make money with affiliate marketing and is the recommended choice for beginners.

There are three reasons why I recommend affiliate marketing to make money online.

  1. Zero cost – It doesn’t cost anything to start making money with affiliate marketing. You can join affiliate programs for free and start promoting other people’s products and services with zero out of pocket expense. There are plenty of free methods to get traffic to your affiliate offers, and with the use of free blogs, you can easily write reviews and recommendations for the products you want to sell. At some point you may want to invest in your own blog or website, but that’s completely optional.
  2. You don’t need your own product or service – When you’re just starting out, you probably won’t have your own product or service. And that’s okay, because with affiliate marketing you make money by promoting other people’s products. Simply refer people, and if they buy, you earn a commission. It’s better than having your own product because you get to choose from thousands of already reputable products and earn a generous amount of money for your efforts. However, there may come a time when you’ll want to create your own product, and that’s fine too.
  3. No training needed – The nice thing is that you don’t need any upfront training. You can literally learn as you go, which is the best way to learn anything, in my opinion. There is, however, a learning curve that you’ll have to master if you want to become successful. But, as mentioned, you can be getting your hands dirty while learning the necessary steps to make money with affiliate marketing.

Make Money with Affiliate Marketing – Using Social Bookmarking to Make Money Online

As an affiliate marketer, it’s important to use every possible strategy to get exposure to your affiliate links. Whether you own your own blog for the purpose of promoting affiliate programs and products or run a free blog, social bookmarks can help you earn more money.

How exactly can you use social bookmarking to make money online?

If you’re not familiar with social bookmarking sites, they’re basically a social community where you can “bookmark” your favorite sites. Other users can see your bookmarks and vote, comment and share them with others. As you can see already, these types of sites can be used to promote your own sites as well.

Social bookmark sites hold a lot of authority in the eyes of the search engines, especially Google. Utilizing these sites will help drive traffic to your blog, and specifically, blog posts.

To get started, you’ll want to sign up for as many bookmarking sites as possible. I recommend first signing up with Delicious and bookmarking sites, and then you can import those bookmarks into the other bookmarking sites.

Whenever you bookmark a blog post, or any web page, you include a title, description and tags/keywords. The benefit of doing this is that whenever you bookmark a page, the title you enter becomes the anchor text for the link that points back to the page. If you’ve been following my posts on backlink building, you’ll know that this has a lot of benefit for your search engine rankings.

Using this strategy and bookmarking your blog posts in which you want to get a lot of exposure will help create high quality backlinks for those posts, thus driving them higher in search engine results.

So, in terms of making money with affiliate marketing, if you wrote a blog post promoting a specific affiliate product or program, you want to get as many backlinks to that specific post as possible. The more backlinks you build, the higher that post will rank for your keywords. Eventually, sales will start coming in as your traffic increases.

I hope you can see the benefit of using social bookmarking as a method to make money online. As a word of caution, don’t simply bookmark all of your posts and pages; bookmark other sites that you find interesting as well. Keep a good balance as to not make your accounts look spammy.

Make Money with Affiliate Marketing – Marketing Your Main Blog Using Free Blogs

In my previous post about free blogs, I briefly mentioned that there’s a way to use free blogs to your advantage, other than using them as a main blog for your business.

Free blogs have a lot of power in that the search engines, especially Google, loves them. We can use sites like Blogger.com and Wordpress.com as a marketing tool to promote our affiliate offers and also our main business blog.

To get the most out of these sites, you’ll want to create unique content and post to them somewhat regularly. Within the blog posts, link back to your main blog. This will create quality backlinks to your main blog and help it rank higher in the search engines for your keyword phrases.

Online include one link to your blog in each blog post. You don’t want to overdue it as some of these sites can get picky about the kind of advertising you do as well as how much. Be sure to read each site’s Terms of Service to make sure you comply with all rules.

Other free blog sites you may want to check out include:

Blogr.com
Blogster.com
Bravenet.com
Flatpress.com
Klatcher.com
Lifetype.com
Livejournal.com
Moveabletype.com
Multiply.com
Serendipity.com
Textpattern.com
Xanga.com

After you post to these blogs, it wouldn’t hurt to social bookmark the blog home page and selective posts that you want to get exposure to. I’ll go into more detail about social bookmarking in my next post, so stay tuned.

Make Money with Affiliate Marketing – The Benefits of Owning Your Own Blog

In my previous post, I briefly went over the pros and cons to using free blogs to make money with affiliate marketing. This post is going to cover the benefits of owning your own blog, rather than using free blogs.

The better approach to using blogs to make money online is to actually own the blog. This means you won’t be setting up a free blog on Blogger.com or Wordpress.com. Instead, you’ll have to register your own domain and name and web hosting. This may sound complicated, but it’s not.

The benefits of having your very own domain are that you can brand yourself or your business. There are numerous additional benefits to just this one main benefit, but I won’t get into that.

Another benefit is that you completely own your blog and domain name. You have full control over every aspect of it. You control the design, content and monetization efforts. Your blog can’t be shut down because you may have violated certain terms. You won’t have to worry about that here.

If you decide to put up ads and advertise various affiliate programs, you’re free to do so. You can build your own opt-in list that you can market to later. The possibilities are truly endless when you own your blog. No one can take it from you.

Say you started out using a free blog and now want to switch to your own blog. Rather than losing all of your posts, you can simply export your posts, comments, etc. from your free blog and import everything into your new blog.

The total cost associated with owning your own blog will only be the domain registration and web hosting. At the most, it will only cost you about $100 a year. That’s it. That’s a very small price to pay when you think about the potential making money with affiliate marketing really has.

Make Money with Affiliate Marketing – Make Money Using Free Blogs

If you’re just starting out in affiliate marketing, you probably don’t want to invest a lot of money into your new business, and you don’t have to. Essentially, affiliate marketing is free and doesn’t require any initial cost. It’s very possible to make money with affiliate marketing through the use of free blogs.

Free blogs such Blogger.com and Wordpress.com, just to name a couple, can be used to create a web presence where you can promote various products as an affiliate.

There are, however, pros and cons to this approach that I’ll discuss below.

Pros

The obvious pro to using free blogs is that they are in fact, free. They’re also very easy to setup and use. You can be up and running and blogging within minutes. At no point will it cost you anything to maintain and keep your blog going.

Cons

The cons to this approach, though, is that you don’t fully own your blog. With free blogs, you’re at the mercy of the blog provider, in this case Blogger.com and Wordpress.com. These two sites both have strict policies about advertising and promoting affiliate products, and they can shut your blog down at any time. That’s not a good thing for you when you’re trying to make money online and build a web presence.

Also, you don’t own the domain. Your blog is a subdomain and part of the Blogger.com or Wordpress.com domain. For example: http://yourblog.blogspot.com or http://yourblog.wordpress.com. For branding purposes, this doesn’t look very professional and will raise questions in the minds of potential customers.

With that being said, it’s very possible to make money online using free blogs. However, it’s not what you’re probably thinking, and I’ll get into this at a later time.

There’s a better approach if you want to setup a main blog from which you’ll brand yourself or your business, and I’ll be talking about this in my next post.

Affiliate Marketing for Dummies – What is Affiliate Marketing?

Have you ever seen all those “… for Dummies” books? There is a pile of them, and they sell because those books provide the information on whatever topic they’re about in an easy to understand format that even a “dummy” can understand.

Well, this post is titled Affiliate Marketing for Dummies because I’m going to explain exactly what affiliate marketing is and help you understand everything about it in easy to understand lingo. After reading, you won’t be confused about affiliate marketing, and you’ll understand how to make money with it.

In a nutshell, affiliate marketing involves an affiliate who markets someone else’s product or service. So, if you were to market a product or service that someone else has created, you would be considered an affiliate.

But why would you be called an affiliate? The definition of the term affiliate is this according to Merriam-Webster: “To connect or associate oneself.” As an affiliate, you’re connecting or associating yourself with the product owner and the product itself. You’re marketing the product on behalf of the product owner. Hence, you’re an affiliate marketer.

So, what benefit do you have as an affiliate marketer?

In affiliate marketing, whenever you market a product or service and make a sale, a percentage of that sale goes to the product owner, and the rest goes to you as you’re the one that referred that customer to the product.

This benefits you as you have the opportunity to earn money by promoting other people’s products rather than creating your own. Another benefit is that most of the time the products will already be established and in good standing.

The amount you can make per sale will depend on the percentage that’s set by the product owner. It can sometimes be up to 50%, though. As you can see, affiliate marketing is a lucrative business for all the reasons I just mentioned.

I hope you now have a clear understand of what affiliate marketing is after reading Affiliate Marketing for Dummies.

Make Money With Affiliate Marketing – Using Social Media to Promote Your Products and Services

February 27, 2010 by Alan
Filed under Affiliate Marketing, How To Make Money Online

How much time do you spend on Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, etc.? How much time on those sites is actually worthwhile? I’ll bet it’s safe to say that a lot of wasted time is spent playing games, taking quizzes and just socializing on these sites.

Do you realize that your time could be better spent promoting affiliate products and making money? Yes, these sites can be used to make money with affiliate marketing.

The key with anything you do when promoting affiliate products is to brand yourself. So, the key to making these sites work for you is branding yourself as an expert in your field. Facebook, Twitter and Myspace all allow you to post updates to your account. Use this to your advantage to promote the products you recommend, but don’t abuse it.

Build friends and a following that will be interested in what you have to talk about. This is how you will convert your status updates into sales. Also make use of other key features like your profile page and “about me” section. Use these as a “sales page” about you or your business.

On Facebook, you can setup your own personal Fan Page. This can be used to drive traffic to your site and build your list. Invite your friends to become a fan, and tell them to do the same.

And, going back to your friends, you first have to build them up. Take it slow as these sites limit the amount of friends you can add in a day. Add too many and you can be seen as a spammer and have your account deleted. You don’t want this to happen if you’ve spent a lot of time on your profile and other features

Making money with affiliate marketing via social sites is a real fact and something you can start doing starting today. Get signed up, be social and make money online!
